Iceland is part of the Schengen area. Citizens of many countries, including the USA, do not need to apply for a visa in advance of arrival.

Iceland uses the
Icelandic Króna. Credit and debit cards are also widely accepted as payment.

Iceland uses type C and type F power outlets. I recommend traveling with a universal power adapter.

Outside of Reykjavik and other cities, Iceland’s public transportation is not great, and renting a car is the easiest way to explore.

Be warned that lodging in Iceland is pricey, but there are plenty of good hotels and guest houses to be found.
